There will be auditions times available on the evenings of February 11th - 13th (Monday through Wednesday). Auditions last about 15-20 minutes, and it's good to get there a couple of minutes early.
We encourage you to attend our Open House Sunday, February the 10th at 10:30 pm in the Tigertone Room (basement of Foulke Hall). It is a great opportunity to meet the guys and hear some singing. You can also sign up for an audition at the open house or by contacting me via e-mail for any and all questions you may have about the group.
We want to do everything we can to make the audition process as stress-free as possible. Here is the general format of the audition so you know what to expect:
- 1. Scales: We'll ask you to sing a few scales first going up and then going down to warm-up your voice and show off your range.
- 2. Swells: A "swell" simply involves singing soft< LOUD on a single note. We'll demonstrate it for you during your audition and then ask you to sing a few swells at different points in your range. We want to see that you have some power and control in your voice.
- 3. Pitch Matching: We'll play a sequence of 3 or 4 notes on the piano and ask you to sing them back to us so we can check out your pitch.
- 4. Prepared Solo: This final part of the audition is your chance to shine. You should have a solo prepared that you can sing without accompaniment. You can sing anything you want -- show tunes, classics, pop songs, camp songs, etc. You should try to pick a song that you feel shows off your voice, but above all, pick a song that you like and are comfortable with.
On the night of your audition, probably between 10:30 and 11:30, we'll come by your room to let you know if you've been called back. Callbacks are on Thursday evening, February 14th.
If you have any questions about auditions, the group, time commitment, travel opportunities, or Tone life in general, please give me a call or speak to any group member. We would all be more than happy to talk about any aspect of the group with you.
Finally, try to be relaxed. We've all been in your position ourselves, so we want to help you out in any way we can. If there's anything we can do to make your audition more comfortable, please let us know. We are looking forward to hearing you.
Sincerely,
Vinny Murthy '10, President
